Welcome to Accounting and Information Systems - Accounting Profession

Accounting Profession, Business and Governments

UC has many associations with businesses, governments and third sector organisations, and their stakeholders (e.g. providers of custom, labour and finance). This is particularly evident in the area of accounting and information systems. Particularly special is our longstanding relationship with the accounting profession, and with the legal profession also. This page contains information on these matters, including for ACIS BCom students aspiring to be members of accounting professional bodies. Other items include information and links to recruitment agencies and to professional bodies in other parts of the world. If you are interested in talking to or cooperating with the University about accounting and information systems matters, please contact ACIS. If your interest concerns broader matters, please click here.

Cooperation between UC and the accounting profession takes many forms, informal and formal, without compromising the academic integrity and independence of the University and its academic staff. This dates back to the early years of the founding of Canterbury College (c. 1873) and the development among the Canterbury settlers from England and elsewhere of trade, industry, commerce and government in Christchurch and its environs. Today, in addition to students studying at UC who aspire to become chartered and certified accountants, it includes, but is not limited to, members of UC staff being members of the profession, practicing accountants tutoring on some courses, the profession being consulted on the UC curriculum, professional body members assisting researchers from UC, professional bodies sponsoring events staged by the University, and academic staff making submissions on accounting and auditing standards and serving on profession committees.

Accountancy Jobs
